This weekend I am honored to have been flown up to Lake Tahoe to DJ a wedding. The ceremony was outside near the water on an absolutely beautiful day. Their dancing guests were a blast to work with! I wish we had at least one more hour because they were having so much fun. Amazing views of the mountains and lake...

L'Auberge Del Mar Wedding 9/20/08
L'Auberge Del Mar has always been an amazing location for weddings. They just got through with a huge renovation and it looks amazing! Tonight's wedding was a group from New York. Richie, a friend of the bride and groom's, is in a hit off-Broadway theater show "Tony N' Tina's Wedding" so it was a special treat when he was able to sing their first dance. We went back and forth between his songs and some DJ music. I would occasionally mix in a song over his song to keep the guests moving. It worked out great! Amazing crowd that would sing along with almost any song. The sparkler exit was a great way to end a memorable evening. Unforgettable Event Coordinators took care of the planning and made things easy on me and Edelweiss Bakery provided the cake.

Humphrey's By The Bay Wedding 9/19/08
Tonight I was over at Humphrey's By The Bay. The pool and grounds are a great tropical paradise tucked away in the middle of the city. The ceremony was held over on a grassy area surrounded by trees and plants. The reception is up on the second floor ballroom that can fit about 150 people. Their colors were green and orange with silver accents. The modern centerpieces had one tall white orchid in a shiny silver pot with orange and white flowers around it. They added a personal touch when they cut the cake with the groom's grandfather's royal naval sword that has been used to cut all of the family wedding cakes. It was a great group. The groom was always excited and happy. The bride danced most of the night away with her friends. The first 45 minutes of dancing were amazing and then there were a few waves of "ups" and "downs" but the last 45 minutes were 100% solid so it ended on a great note.
On a side note: If you haven't checked out Humphrey's Restaurant on Shelter Island it is one of the best looking restaurants (and websites) in my opinion with a great view of the docked boats on the bay. Very modern but warm and inviting. I am waiting for the day when I DJ a reception in there! They charge a minimum of around $15,000.-$20,000. for the buyout so it is not cheap...

Admiral Baker Golf Clubhouse Wedding 9/14/08
It has been about a year or two since I have done a wedding at the Admiral Baker Golf Clubhouse. It has a nice room with a patio that overlooks the lake and golf course. Tonight is the exact reason I love my job! Absolutely an amazing crowd that could not stop dancing, singing, smiling, and laughing. Everyone was truly having a blast. Their last name was Jackson so for the last fast song of the evening I played Ms. Jackson by Outcast (I had saved it all night and knew it would go over really well). First all of the groomsmen were serenading the groom's mother and then the attention switched over to our bride the "new Mrs. Jackson" and they surrounded her in song as well. A great ending to a fun wedding.
Bahia Wedding 9/13/08
It was a large wedding with around 300 guests using the entire top floor of the Mission Ballroom over at the Bahia tonight. The room looked great with tall centerpieces on the 35 tables (take a look at the never ending tables in the photo below)! I placed the uplights on all of the main columns near the windows. They really highlighted the architecture, added to the drama, and tied in their blue color to the room. It looked great at sunset with the dim light and blue water outside. The grand entrance tonight consisted of 41 people not including our bride & groom! It was one of the most challenging set of names I have had in a long time. I practiced for about two hours before the event to make sure I was saying them correctly. The difficult list included names such as: Tabangay, Salandanan, Simbulan, Matsunaga, Ballestamon, and Baluyot among others... Let's just say I needed a glass of water after the introductions! The crowd was great and they really danced to anything. It was nice to work with NR3 Video Productions again. They always do a great job.

El Cortez Wedding 9/12/08
It is always a true honor when someone in the wedding industry selects me to DJ their wedding because they view DJ's every week and definitely know "the good, the bad, and the ugly". The bride works as the Director Of Catering over at the Lodge At Torrey Pines which is one of the nicest locations in San Diego so she could have selected anybody. I had DJ'd her sister's wedding a year ago out at the Coronado Marriott (one of the best dancing groups I have had in years) so it was sort of a referral from that event as well since she had a blast! The wedding tonight was at the El Cortez Don Room which has a unique shape and a wonderful patio space. Overall an excellent location for a celebration (A great fact: since 1927 everyone from Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, William Jefferson Clinton have all partied in the 24k Don Room). The main focus tonight was on the food! It was a four course meal that took three hours to serve :(. This left only about 45 minutes for dancing. They tore it up for about a good half hour and then guess what... more food! They opened up a "street taco" bar out on the patio with cigars and ports near the cool modern lounge furniture/fireplace. Everyone had a good time and left completely full!
It was great to work with Kathy Wright & Co. Event Design & Florals and Tim Otto Photography again.
Lighting: Uplights, Centerpiece Spotlights, Monogram Projection
An excellent example of the effect that spotlighting the centerpieces and lighting in general can create. I really think that lighting is one of the most important decorating elements that often is overlooked.

The KNOT.com Party at the Inn At Rancho Santa Fe 9/10/08
The KNOT.com hosted an invite only vendor party tonight at the Inn At Rancho Santa Fe. They gave a 30 minute presentation on local, as well as, national wedding trends and statistics. Pretty amazing information that they can gather through their website and surveys. The rest of the evening was spent around the pool socializing and networking with other wedding vendors. Unique and tasty food was provided by Chili Co.

NACE Meeting - Stone Brewery Gardens 9/9/08
Tonight's monthly N.A.C.E. (National Association of Catering Executives) meeting was held out at the Stone Brewery World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido. A beautiful $14 million brewery and a one-acre lush beer garden. The restaurant is a mixture of stainless steel, concrete, wood and stone. "Sam The Cooking Guy" was out guest speaker. He gave an excellent cooking presentation on how to keep it simple and make it a "hands on" experience.
Also a fun experience for those over 21 during the summer: Stone Late Night Movies. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets then grab a beer down in the gardens for a classic movie on the 12 foot screen!

Doubletree Mission Valley Wedding 9/6/08
It has been a long time since I have worked at the Doubletree Mission Valley. I was referred to this wedding couple through their videographer. Tonight we had a fun cocktail hour outside near the tennis courts. They had me stay an extra hour overtime since guests were having a great time! Flour Power provided the cake and I finally ate a piece with the brides parents after the reception was over. One of the most interesting flavors I have ever had... Peanut Butter! It sounds crazy but was actually great.
