December Holiday Party At Barona Casino

I am just going to highlight a few company holiday parties this December. Tonight I was over at Barona Casino for a 200 person company party. The location is a bit of a drive for most people but I think it is a great spot for a corporate event because they have the hotel right there, the casino is available, and the event space is pretty much brand new. This offers guests lots of options to keep them interested. I am used to the "standard" prizes for most of the company raffle drawings such as the LCD TV's, iPods, etc. This company party had one of the coolest raffle prizes I've seen in a while (and it wasn't the 50" LCD TV). They were giving away a sleek Tag Heuer watch! They also hired a female comedian for a 30 minute act and she did a really great job keeping everyone laughing. We then kicked into dancing. Tonight's group had a good time even though I lost a fair number of guests that wanted to go out into the the casino (which is typical with any casino). Overall a fun way to close out the 2009 season!

Orange County Mining Co. Wedding 11/21/09

Today I headed up to Orange County to a beautiful reception site called the Orange County Mining Co. with the ceremony being held at Orange County Heritage Museum. The view from the reception site was pretty amazing overlooking all of the city lights down below. They had one of the most unique custom cake top caricatures made that looked just like their online game versions. The two locations required me to arrive much earlier due to the fact that I had to set up the reception equipment first and then travel 20-30 minutes to the ceremony location to get equipment ready. This wedding was a referral from a bride and groom who had their wedding over two years ago. They trusted me to DJ again for their sister so I really wanted to do a great job. Everyone enjoyed the evening and dancing went pretty well. The bride had gotten sick a few days earlier so she wasn't feeling well towards the end of the evening. They had to leave about 30 minutes early but we were able to get in all the important events and some extra time for dancing. It is always an honor and a pleasure to DJ for past clients and their families!

Town & Country Resort Wedding 11/8/09

I was over at the Town & Country Resort for a Sunday wedding today. I provided sound for the outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. We then moved inside the ballroom for the reception. It was funny because they also had an ice sculpture which you don't see at every wedding (last night's wedding had an ice sculpture martini luge). I added some colored lighting to the ice sculpture which really made it stand out from across the room. Dancing was fairly consistent throughout the evening considering it was a Sunday night wedding. The lighting looked amazing in the room and really enhanced the atmosphere. It can really hide certain elements and bring out items you want to highlight. Tonight was a perfect example of that. I provided a custom monogram that was projected down onto the dance floor and 7 uplights around the room.

Extras Provided: 7 Uplights, Custom Monogram Projection

Marriott Downtown San Diego Wedding 11/7/09

The Marriott Downtown San Diego was the venue for tonight's wedding. The Seaview Room is a unique room with many options for lighting! Tonight we had many uplights throughout the space. Three custom monogram projections were projected onto the walls. We had their names above the dance floor and then two other patterned images on the side walls to add some interest. Dancing went well for the entire evening and guests had a good time. We used the water effect lighting above the dance floor during open dancing for color and movement. A fun element was the ice martini luge where guests could select their custom flavored martini before it was chilled going down the ice luge. They also had a chocolate fountain with an assortment of fruits, brownies, rice krispies, and snacks to dip.

The Menu tonight looked amazing:
~Salad~
Mixed Field Greens Topped with Sliced Bartlet Pears, Candied Almonds and Crumbled Feta Cheese Served with Balsamic Vinaigrette
~Entree~
Petite Filet and Crab Stuffed Shrimp served with a Cabernet Reduction
Parmesan Mushroom Risotto
Patty Pan Squash, Asparagus, Baby Carrots, and Roasted Red Tomato with Bread Crumbs
Basket of Baked Breads to Include Mini Cheese Rolls and Cheese Sticks
~Dessert~
Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Starbucks Coffee, and Tea Service

Halloween Private Party 10/31/09

A private event tonight for a Halloween party! I was the DJ at a wedding a few months ago and the couple had a great time. Many of the guests at tonight's Halloween party were at that wedding. They enjoyed what I did and decided to hire me for their private party. Police showed up at 11pm so we had to turn it down a bit but the party continued until 1am. Great costumes and a great crowd.

L'Auberge Del Mar Wedding 10/24/09

I was back at L'Auberge Del Mar tonight for a great wedding. I projected the couple's names onto the waterfall for a dramatic outdoor space. Guests kept taking pictures with it so it served a few different purposes. We packed the ballroom with 150 guests, a band, and myself as the DJ. We kicked dancing off 10 minutes into the reception before dinner was served. They had many guests from the east coast so they are used to a little dancing before dinner. It worked out well and the floor was packed. I mostly played Motown and Oldies at this point to keep it friendly for all. After dinner the band played for an hour, we cut the cake, and then I finished off the evening playing more of the current music mixed in with a little funk, 80's, and 90's. They kept wanting more. The groom wanted "Shout" as the last song and everyone went completely nuts.

California Center For The Arts Wedding 10/17/09

Tonight I was up at the California Center For The Arts in Escondido. In the past 15 years I can't remember DJing a wedding or event there. It is always refreshing to visit a new location. We started with cocktail hour outside on the patio where I provided a small cocktail portable music system. It was hot out so guests were ready to make there way inside once we opened up the ballroom doors. The cocktail hour and reception were a total of 7 hours on a Sunday night so I didn't think guests would make it until the end.It did fade out around 10pm but people stayed until the end. I played a lot of country tonight (bride & groom's requests) which is very different from most weddings. They enjoyed it and I think everyone had a good time. The uplighting I provided really put some needed color on the all white walls. The space would have felt really empty without them. We also use the white "starry" lights during their first dance only. They wanted to add a little something different to make it stand out.

Rancho Bernardo Inn Wedding 10/16/09

Amazing wedding tonight at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Wedding's typically shy away from black linens and bridesmaid's dresses but tonight they pulled it off in style. A rich, dark elegance in the Bernardo Ballroom for 200 of their closest guests. The cake looked great on black linens with a mirrored top. It was a special date for both families. This is the first and probably only time this will ever happen... The bride's parents, as well as, the groom's parents were BOTH married on October 16th so our couple tonight had to get married on the same date! We had a very special anniversary dance for all of them. The rest of the evening went really well. Non-Stop dancing until the end. It got pretty crazy at times (see "bride's mother-in chair-8 feet off the ground" picture below). Great evening with a great dancing crowd!

Arterra Del Mar Lighting 10/16/09

Tonight was a VIP only event at Arterra outdoor lounge at the Marriott Del Mar. I provided a "lighting only" job to enhance the space. All of the Marriott Hotels got together to throw an "end of the summer party" for the upper management, as well as, each hotels biggest clients. Arterra outdoor lounge is one of my favorite outdoor locations. Modern, clean, unlimited possibilities (not to mention some of the highest rated food in San Diego). I provided uplighting for all of the palm trees, rippling water effect lighting on the building, white "starry lights all over the space, along with 2 custom gobo projections with the "Arterra" logo on the wood lounge area and the "Marriott" logo down into the pool. It was a complete hit with the VIP guests. Throughout the night I noticed people pointing to certain lighting elements and talking about the atmosphere. I joined in on a few conversations and think I might have another lighting job or two from this event. If you are looking to host an event at an amazing outdoor venue call and ask for Stephanie or Joe. You will be well taken care of... Museum Of Contemporary Art La Jolla Wedding 10/10/09

The Museum of Contemporary Art La Jolla is always one of my favorite places to work at mainly because it is an interesting space and I have always been into modern art (not to mention the lighting possibilities!) We had the ceremony outside on the patio with my favorite Minister Jerry Bryant this evening. Cocktail hour was held downstairs in the Coast Room. Guests them moved upstairs for the reception where Guiseppe Catering was busy with three excellent food stations. It was perfect timing because it was just getting dark and all the uplighting that I had done in the room was beginning to come to life. Look at the before and after pictures below to really get a great idea of what lighting can do for any reception space! They had a cool lounge area back by the artwork that Haydee from Concepts Event Design provided. John from Aquario Studio Photography documented the evening on film. I am interested to get some of his photos of the lighting in the room since my small camera doesn't really do these photos justice. Organic Elements did some minimal floral centerpieces that fit well in the modern space. We kicked off dancing with a slightly older music set to make sure all of the family members and family friends were happy. Once we cut the cake a little later we kicked things into high gear. I played more current music and mostly club remixes for the rest of the night. They seemed conservative early on in the evening but got pretty wild the last hour. Excellent well rounded wedding.
